We are: Community

Church family across the city of York

In an increasingly individual, unconnected world, we understand the need for good community. It takes a village to raise a family; something we strongly believe applies to our whole church family, not just those with small kids.

YEC run a number of activities and groups to help us build community. These range from social events to help us get to know our church family better, shared meals after church services, seasonal events to invite friends to be a part of, and regular coffee mornings to meet each other’s neighbours and friends.

Everyone is welcome to these events, whether you attend church or not. Please contact us for more information on any of the activities below:

Coffee Morning

We hold a monthly coffee morning at 60 South Bank Avenue on the first Friday of every month. This is a chance to meet others from the South Bank area for hot drinks, light refreshments and chat in a warm local environment.

Memory Lane

Memory Lane is held a few times a year for those over 50. These events aim to inform and facilitate sharing of memories on a relevant topic such as Terry’s chocolate, the Sixties and Christmas in years gone by. A short Christian talk is included, and lifts can be provided if required.

Film Night

YEC run a monthly film night at 60 South Bank Avenue where we watch a film together and then discuss some key points. The film night is primarily aimed at international students to help them improve their English in an informal setting, but is open to all who are interested.

Seasonal Events

Christmas, Easter, New Year and Harvest are all times that we love to gather together as church family. This may be singing Christmas carols, celebrating the abundance of harvest-time in a jam-themed afternoon Jamboree, or looking forward to the coming of Spring as we eat a meal together. All seasonal events are open to everyone.

Ladies’ Social

We aim to hold a social morning for ladies in the church to meet together, chat, eat excellent baked goods and drink tea and coffee a few times a year. This is a great opportunity to deepen friendships and catch up with those you may not get to see regularly on a Sunday.

Mens’ Social

Similar to the ladies social, but generally with more curry and less cake. We strongly believe that fostering deeper friendships between the men of our church is a crucial part of being church family and are committed to providing social events like these a few times a year to ensure friendships are maintained amid busy lives.

Homegroups

We meet around the city in smaller groups twice a month to study the Bible and pray for each other. They are a wonderful place to see church family working on a micro scale and to share food and fellowship with other believers. Homegroups are generally only open to those who attend YEC, but do contact us if you are interested in studying the Bible in a smaller group.
